FEBA Academy Lead the Way as Nuru Look to Bounce Back in Women Empowerment League

...

The Women Empowerment League is beginning to take shape, and two teams remain firmly in focus — FEBA Academy and Nuru Basketball Academy. Their seasons have started differently, but both continue to play an important role in a league that is growing in quality and competitiveness.

Right now, FEBA Academy are the side setting the pace. With a 3-1 record, a strong +73 point differential, and confidence building each week, they have looked one of the most complete teams in the competition.

Their latest result, a 63-38 win over Soweto Sports Initiative Ladies, was another reminder of their strength. FEBA defended well, shared the ball, and controlled the tempo from early on.

The standout player was Aker Peter, who finished with 20 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in an all-round performance. She was well supported by Idah Achieng, who scored 17 points and knocked down five three-pointers, while Shaniz Wanjiru added hustle across the stat sheet with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

That depth has become FEBA’s biggest advantage. They have multiple players capable of stepping up, which is often what separates strong teams from the rest.

For Nuru Basketball Academy, the start has been more difficult. They now sit at 1-3 after a 48-36 loss to Stingers, but even in defeat there were positives to take.

The clear bright spot was Anita Georgin, who delivered a huge individual effort with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks. She shot efficiently, stretched the floor with two made threes, and competed hard throughout the game. It was the kind of performance that shows Nuru have talent to build around.

She also received support from Guya Ann and Joyce Bells, who each scored 6 points, but Nuru struggled for consistent scoring as a team against a disciplined Stingers side.

Despite the record, Nuru are far from out of the picture. This stage of the season is about finding rhythm, learning quickly, and turning performances into results. If they can build around the form of Anita Georgin, better days may not be far away.

Elsewhere, Stingers remain unbeaten at 2-0, while Soweto Sports Initiative Ladies and Valkyries stay within touching distance.

For now, FEBA Academy have earned the spotlight through results. But Nuru still have time to change their story — and with players capable of standout performances, they remain a team worth watching.
